    Coach Mauney

    April 20- May 15, 2020

Hello everyone! I surely miss each of you! I hope each of you are doing well and are safe from this virus.

We are continuing with similar assignments as last month.

I am not going to overwhelm you over this break, but I do want to provide some opportunities for you to develop your skills. I have assigned 4 CommonLit assignments on commonlit.org. Please access the site to see the assignments. If you need your login information, just contact me through Remind.

Please do not dismiss the material I give to you. Make sure that you make time to work on these things. Although I am not there to help you, this material will only make you stronger in that skill. I will not be giving any new material, but the material will be covering what we have covered this school year. This is simple practice on reading comprehension, figurative language, characterization, flashback, foreshadowing, etc. It is CommonLit! You love CommonLit as much as everyone else, I know! (Maybe I am exaggerating…)

Use the strategies we have gone over and over this year. Mark up the passages. Take side notes per paragraph to help with comprehension and understanding. Highlight words and phrases. Look up words. Make assumptions prior to reading. Use RACES strategy when completing ANY writing opportunity on these assignments (R-restate the question: make the question a statement; A-answer ALL parts of the question; C-cite examples and evidence from the text; E-explain how examples/evidences support our answer; S-sum it up: end with a summary sentence).

Again, as I mentioned last month:

You will be losing 2 months of instruction, but you will also be moving on to the next grade level in the fall, if your grade was passing, since school will not resume this school year. You will need to work on what you have already been taught so you will not be struggling at the beginning of the next school year!

I love you guys, and I hope you can remain healthy and untouched by this Coronavirus. I miss seeing you and having you in class.

First of all, I know each of you absolutely HATE the fact that you are missing out on Coach Mauney’s English class! Well, just let me think that. Also, I hope each of you is safe and healthy!

Anyway, because we will be out for this next month, I want us to continue to do at least a little bit of instruction to maintain what we have learned and covered this year.

    Think about it.
