Changes to the 2021-2022 South Tippah County School District Handbook

STUDENT ATTENDANCE AND TARDIES

It is important that your child is at school each day and on time.  Students are to be in their classrooms when the 7:45 a.m. bell rings.  Students arriving after that time must report to the office for permission to enter class.  Students in Bldg. I will report to Bldg. I office and students in Bldg. II will report to Bldg. II office.  Excessive absences and tardies will be reported to the attendance officer.  This will be enforced.  Only 3 parent excuses and 3 check-in/check-outs will be accepted per semester.  After 3, we must have a doctor’s excuse to excuse an absence.  If a student is dropped off at 7:45 or later, the parent is required to walk the child in and sign him/her in at the office.

Students with perfect attendance are recognized with various incentives and awards every nine weeks and annually.  Students with 10 or more unexcused tardies are not eligible for perfect attendance recognition.  To be recognized for perfect attendance, a student must be on time and present all day, every day with no checkouts.

STUDENT APPEARANCE

Students are encouraged to dress neatly and attractively that reflects pride in themselves,  their school, and is in compliance with district policy.  Generally, students should wear safe clothes, do not disturb or distract other students, and are appropriate for learning.

  1. Clothing advertising products such as cigarettes or alcohol should not be worn.  Also, clothing with suggestive messages or slogans is prohibited.

  2. Cleats, taps, flip-flops, or other shoes that produce sound should not be worn.

  3. Caps, hats, any headgear, or sunglasses shall not be worn at school.

REPORTING PUPIL PROGRESS

Report cards are sent home every nine weeks.  They should be examined very closely and sent promptly back to school.  A grade of D or below indicates you should schedule a conference with your child’s teacher.  Please call the school at 837-7203 to schedule an appointment.  Also, if your child is not mastering kindergarten skills by January 1, you should schedule a conference.

RELEASE OF STUDENTS

Instruction time continues until 2:40 p.m. each day.  Therefore, when a student is checked out early, he/she misses valuable classroom instruction.  For your child to receive maximum educational benefits and for his/her safety, please follow these guidelines.
